Whaiao – Education for Sustainability Otago

FARMING FOR TOMORROW DOCUMENTARIES

WHO THEY ARE

Toko Farms

Whaiao - Education for Sustainability Otago is a New Zealand-based initiative dedicated to promoting sustainable practices across schools, communities, and local industries. Through hands-on learning and practical projects, they support education around environmental stewardship, regenerative agriculture, and sustainable living. The Farming for Tomorrow project highlights innovative farming practices in Otago, showcasing how farms like Toko Farms and Holy Cow are implementing sustainable approaches - from soil health and water management to ethical livestock care. By documenting these practices, Whaiao demonstrates the potential for New Zealand farms to balance productivity with ecological responsibility, inspiring other farmers, educators, and communities to adopt similar methods.

We collaborated with Whaiao to create a visual and educational presentation for the Farming for Tomorrow documentary series. Our design work focused on translating complex ideas about sustainable farming into clear, engaging visuals and layouts suitable for both educational and promotional purposes. This included designing the publication format, incorporating photography, infographics, and concise text to highlight key sustainability lessons and innovative practices on Otago farms.

The project aimed to make sustainable farming principles accessible to a wide audience, including farmers, educators, and the public. By emphasizing storytelling, strong imagery, and a logical information flow, we helped Whaiao communicate the real-world impact of these practices and the broader importance of regenerative agriculture in New Zealand. The resulting materials not only showcase the farms themselves but also serve as a resource for environmental education, demonstrating the role that design and communication play in supporting sustainable initiatives and encouraging positive change.
